Hi Jake! Thanks so much to chatting to us. Could you tell us about your current role and what you do?

Jake: I manage the digital marketing team, which means overseeing strategy for channels such as paid search, SEO and email marketing. I also manage our ecommerce channels, making sure that the products that we’re selling are available across a number of platforms, offers are kept up to date and the site is performing when it comes to sales.

What's your career background like?

J: I’ve worked in marketing for around a decade, and made the decision to specialise in digital really early when trying to plug a skills gap in a junior role. I taught myself how to build a landing page and everything spiralled from there. Since then I’ve been fortunate to work in a number of sectors, including property, recruitment and now tech.

What has one of your career highlights been?

J: First taking on management responsibilities was a major highlight. You never know how it’s going to go, but with a good team around you it’s extremely rewarding, and when the wins come it’s a great feeling to celebrate them together.

What does a day in the life look like for you?

Working in a start up, every day is different and that’s something that I really appreciate. Most days will include checking in with the team, ensuring they’re on track with projects helping out where possible. There’s always new clients being onboarded, new products going live, campaign activations, so we’re gearing up our website and marketing channels for new activity on a daily basis.

What would you say a benefit of finding a role through IN4 Talent has been?

IN4 Talent were extremely transparent throughout the entire process. I always knew what to expect when it came to interviews and received really good feedback at each stage. I was introduced to an employer that was a perfect fit for me, and one that I’ve been able to thrive under. Given my experiences with IN4 Talent, when it came to hiring in my current role they were my first port of call too.

What advice would you give to candidates trying to get into your role?

I’d highly recommend marketing as a career path, mainly because of the variation of projects you’ll get to work on. It’s so multi-faceted that there will be a role for you, whether you’re analytical or creative, a bit of a wordsmith or just super organised. I’d recommend taking a first leap into a marketing role, trying to get initial experiences in the different principles, and reviewing your own skill set to see which area best suits your attributes.
